Occupational Certificate: Compliance Officer

This qualification aims to prepare a learner to provide compliance services to assist management to discharge their responsibilities to comply with applicable regulatory requirements.
The qualification consists out of three compulsory components :

A qualified learner will be able to:
- Design and implement compliance risk management frameworks
- Define, assess, maintain and advise on the regulatory universe
- Develop, facilitate compilation of and review compliance risk management plans
- Conduct compliance monitoring
- Compile and submit internal and external compliance reports
- Interact with industry regulators, supervisors and stakeholders

It is assumed that the learners who attend this programme:
- Are at least at an educational level of grade 12 with Mathematics and Communication level 4
- Have at least one year's relevant compliance work experience
- Are working in a compliance department and role
- Have a basic understanding of the legal environment in South Africa
- Have computer and general office skills (faxing, filling, e-mail)

Training Methodology: The training methodology is a blended learning approach (online):
- Virtual contact sessions combined with self-study to address the knowledge and practical skills components of the curriculum.
- A structured work experience program at the site of an approved workplace to address the work experience component of the curriculum.
- A mentor must be identified in the workplace to oversee this component.
Assessment: Khulisane will conduct internal assessments by means of assessment activities and signed-off work experience log sheets. Upon successful completion of all six modules, Khulisane provides a statement of results to the candidate and the Compliance Institute SA (CI SA), as part of the candidate’s application to complete the External Summative Assessment conducted by CI SA.
Certification: Upon successful completion of the External Summative Assessment, candidates will be recommended by CISA to the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) for certification.
The profile of learners who can access this qualification is quite varied. It includes learners who are:
- Higher Institution graduates, typically with accounting or legal qualifications
- Practitioners currently operating in the compliance field
Once qualified, learners could be employed in a variety of compliance functions within organisations, or be able to set
up their own independent practice to provide consulting or outsourced compliance services.
